Custom slugs

What are custom slugs?

Instead of a random string like a3f9k2m, a custom slug lets you choose readable text like launch or pricing. Your link becomes alterlink.app/yourname/launch — easier to say, type, and trust.

How to enable them

Custom slugs are available on the Creator plan. Upgrade from your dashboard billing tab for $9 per year. Once upgraded, the custom-slug input field appears on every link creation form. If the field is disabled, it means you are on the free tier.

Slug rules

• 3–32 characters long.
• Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only.
• No spaces, underscores, or special characters.
• Must be unique across the platform.

Changing or reclaiming slugs

You can edit a custom slug at any time from the link detail page. The old slug will return a 404, so update any published references. Deleted slugs enter a short hold period before they become available again, preventing abuse and link hijacking.
